Congratulations, Havilah Giannetta!

Congratulations, Havilah Giannetta!

BIG NEWS for the Epiphany Space community! Author Havilah Giannetta (one of our first artists in residence as well as the cover girl of our Facebook page) was just awarded a 2019 Money For Women/Barbara Deming Memorial Fund grant of $1000 for her nonfiction submission, The Reclamation of Havilah.

The Money For Women/Barbara Deming Memorial Fund is the oldest ongoing feminist granting agency. Awarding grants to women writers and artists who speak to the legacy of civil rights and feminist activist Barbara Deming. With the provision of this grant, Havilah will continue to pursue the process of traditionally publishing her aforementioned debut memoir.

From Havilah’s award letter:
“Your application and work engaged our judges on a deep level, speaking to the feminist values of the fund, as well as the legacy of Barbara Deming. We want to thank you so much for your hard work and creativity. It brings us great joy to congratulate you today.”

Deming founded the Money for Women Fund in 1975, saying, “In my life I’ve been helped as a writer to do my work. I think it’s fair that I try to help others.” Now a “memorial fund,” and also sustained by the late writer and artist, Mary Meigs, as well as contributions from donors and former grantees, the fund gives encouragement and small grants of $500-1500 to individual feminists in the arts: writers, visual artists and poets.

All of us at Epiphany Space are thrilled for this exciting turn of events! Havilah, we’re rooting for you and can’t wait to celebrate the next milestone!
